Naming conventions

22 Aug 2023 -
What bit am I talking about?
STARBOARD the right side of the ship, when facing forward
PORT the left side of the ship, when facing forward.
It should be noted that port and starboard are absolute. The starboard side is always the same side of the ship, even if you are looking from a different angle. Looking from the front, to the rear, the starboard side would be on your left!
FORWARD, FORE the front of the vessel
AFT the rear of the vessel
QUARTER a rear side part of the ship, the rear left is the port quarter
SHOULDER a front side of the ship, the front right is the starboard shoulder
DORSAL the top surface of the ship
VENTRAL the bottom surface of the ship
SAUCER the 'main' hull of the Millennium Falcon, which is saucer shaped
ENGINE QUADRANT the aft section of the saucer, under the 'vents'
CORE the central part of the saucer, under the round turret structure
MANDIBLES the two long extensions to the hull, from each shoulder
JAWS the two box-like structures which sit between the mandibles, dorsal and ventral
DOCKING ARMS the port and starboard box-like structures which extend from the core. The starboard docking arm contains the boarding ramp
DOCKING RINGS the round structures at the ends of the docking arms
